Love is in the Air

Flowers, sweet treats, shiny gifts & love in the air... this can only mean one thing, Valentine's Day is near!

There is nothing I love more than a beautiful bouquet of flowers! (Just for the record.. I am not against sweet treats & shiny gifts too! lol!)

I have always thought of flowers as being "dependable".

They have a way of brightening up a room, even on the most gloomiest of days. They can always be counted on to make a frown turn upside down.                      The sweet floral smell is invigorating & relaxing at the same time.

Flowers also have meanings.  You can send love, give compliments & admirations, send wishes of faith, hope, & strength... With over a million species, you are practically guaranteed to be able to say exactly what's on your mind!

I could continue on & on about flowers, and all of their copious wonderous effects... but, I think you get the point.

If you're planning on sending flowers this Valentine's Day..  this is a great start!                                                                                                                            Click on the photo or link below to read this wonderful share from            Good Housekeeping, "The Hidden Meaning Behind 10 Popular Flowers"

How about a Splash of Color in your Kitchen?

There is nothing I love more than a classic white kitchen with pops of color added!

Of course it took me many, many years of horrible kitchen make-overs to realize this.

Remember the tv series "Martin", that ran from 1992-1997?  Yes?.. Now think back to the teal & purple kitchen cabinets that adorned the background of Martin's apartment.

Are you there yet?  Now you can picture what was probably my biggest kitchen make-over FAIL!  Although, at the time.. and only for a very short time... It was pretty cool! HaHa!

I surely wasn't scared of bright & bold colors then, and I'm still not today.  Only, these days I like to use color as an accent and not for my entire kitchen pallet! LOL!!

What about you?  Have you been wanting to add some color to spice up your kitchen?  Not sure where to start?

I don't know about you, but as for me & my family... We LOVE Halloween!!  Other than not being excused from missing work or school... what's not to love?

Think about it.

Dressing up and being able to pretend to be anything, or anyone (the skies the limit on this one!) AND being publicly accepted (meaning.. not going to jail. lol!) ?!?!  This just happens to be on the top of my family's, "Halloween favorites list". HA!

Fun Halloween parties everywhere, the night's air filled with sweet sounds of laughter & shrills, chills and creepy crawlers running down your spine, finding your way through frightfully haunted houses, telling tales of scary stories, and all of the yummy Halloween treats & candy...  is only a glimpse into the spooky fun!.

But, my personal favorite is the.. haunted houses

I'm not talking about the ones that are specifically set up to give the ones who dare to enter, a frightful scare... I am talking about the "real" deals.

Which is why I am super excited to share with you, HGTV's collection of        "12 Real-Life Haunted Houses"!

Take a look into some of America's scariest homes... If You Dare!

For the Love of Powder Rooms

Wow.  It always amazes me when time shows itself.. and what seems so long ago, really isn't that very long ago.
It seems like yesterday, when I was just a small girl... discovering my love for powder rooms.
I remember when powder rooms & 1/2 baths seemed to adorn only the biggest and fanciest homes.                                                                                          All of the powder rooms I encountered as a child, were always elaborately decorated and the had the BEST bowl of hand soaps!!                                           Sometimes, I would even feel as if I had entered an entire different place.
I remember telling myself, "I am going to have a powder room in my house, one day!".
Now, over 30 years later...  The powder room has nearly become an essential in a home's layout.
And, I think that is FANTASTIC news!!
With that, How will you design your powder room??

Check out this fabulous collection of powder rooms featured on Houzz.

Fall, Football & Al fresco Dining. Are you Ready?

Considering the "Dog Days of Summer" are here... I most likely imagined the quick cool breeze I felt, as I was enjoying the sunset last night.  None the less, that quick cool breeze took me and my thoughts off to times of cooler weather.  Which is why I have fall, football, & Al fresco dining on my mind.  (I just love the word "Al fresco", don't you?!)

In the South, fall & football not only go together like peanut butter & jelly, but together they bring family, friends, food, & good times.  I was thinking about the huge weather window the Gulf Coast, gives us... and then I asked myself, "Are you ready?".

I believe the heart of an outdoor living space, starts with the outdoor kitchen.  Food has been bringing people together since the beginning of time.  There's nothing like enjoying a meal outdoors or having all of the comforts of an indoor kitchen, while surrounded by nature.    (FYI.. Not only is an outdoor kitchen good to enjoy family, friends, & food in... but an outdoor kitchen can increase your home's value.)

Like all rooms, the outdoor kitchen requires design, purpose, and upkeep.  Find the best possible position for the outdoor grill and dinning table.  Make a connection between your house & landscape, by using materials that compliment your house or patio selections and incorporate architectural details, such as a pergola to define the space and connect the house.

How much entertaining do you plan on?  How large do you expect your gatherings to be?  Just by answering these two simple questions, your outdoor oasis will begin to come together.

Did you know, there is a whole world of outdoor appliances out there?  It is definitely not just grills anymore!  From beverage centers, wine refrigerators, ice makers, kegerators & beer taps, pizza ovens, garbage disposals & dishwashers....  I am talking, a H-U-G-E world of outdoor appliances!

What is any kitchen without cabinets or countertops?  Good thing the world of custom cabinetry is endless, and your cabinet layout is to your heart's desire.  Choose a countertop surface that will withstand the outdoor elements & spills.  (*Food for thought, natural stone or concrete requires a sealant; whereas granite does not.)

An outdoor kitchen helps you to slow down and spend more time with family and friends... an outdoor kitchen puts all of the ingredients for a perfect "Al fresco" dining experience, in your backyard.

Is your outdoor living area all that you have ever dreamed for it to be?  No?  What are you waiting for?  There is no better time than now.  Loper Construction, can build your custom outdoor kitchen from start to fire up.

Until next time.  Wishing you a week filled with lots of smiles & sunshine!

Much love~

Let's Conquer Summertime Home Maintenance

Summertime is a season filled with all kinds of exciting & fabulous activities...  Sunny beach days, backyard barbecues, fun fishing trips, just to name a few.  With all of the fun in the sun, it is easy to forget to add "Summer Home Maintenance", to your to-do list.

Home Maintenance, is crucial to your home's well being.  Sometimes the thoughts of "home maintenance", can become very overwhelming.  I suggest the same advice, as so many other professionals do; Break your home's maintenance schedule into seasons... Summer, Fall, Winter, & Spring.

If you haven't already thought about it, summer is the perfect time for serious preventative maintenance on the exterior of your home.  Here are just a few tips for refreshing & maintaining your home.

  • Power Wash
  1.  It is always a great feeling when your home feels fresh and clean.  Not only on the inside, but on the outside as well.  Rent a power washer and using a gentle detergent you can easily clean your home's exterior.  Power washing gets rid of dirt, tree sap, mold, and anything else that is keeping your home from shining.

How to Power Wash a House: 7 Steps - wikiHow

  • You have just finished washing the exterior of your home, and it feels great!  If the exterior of your home is painted, now is the best time to check for blistering and/or cracking paint.  This should be addressed as soon as possible, as these issues can eventually lead to other problems, such as wood rot.  If you find that your exterior has a large amount of flaws, you might want to consider repainting your entire home.  Talk about having the freshest house on the block!

2.    While you have the power washer out & ready... Don't forget about your deck!  Dirt build-up & dead wood fiber can give your deck a drab appearance.  By power washing your deck, you can remove this old dirt & build-up.  Meanwhile plan on applying a new coat of deck sealer.  This will prevent your deck from graying & also stops cracking and splitting of the wood.

Revive Your Home's Exterior

  • Clean Gutters
  1. Cleaning out your home's gutters, is not just a spring or fall job.  Gutters should be checked monthly for debris.  A clogged gutter can cause water damage to a home when rainwater backs up over the gutter and washes over the side of your house.

  • Check Dryer Vents
  1. Your dryer vents are very easily overlooked & forgotten.  According to the US Fire Administration, approximately 16,000 dryer fires occur annually.  They could have all been avoided by, cleaning out the dryer vents.  So, grab your vacuum, or vent cleaning brush and clean out your dryer vent tubing.  By removing as much lint & dust as possible, you can keep you home safe from dryer vent hazards.

  • While you're tackling the lint & dust in your dryer vents, go ahead and vacuum & clean all air vents, and replace all of your AC filters.

These home maintenance suggestions, are all fairly easy work that can and will improve the condition of your home.  Who doesn't want a fresh & clean look?  You will even save money in the long run.  By scratching off a few home maintenance items from your list, you are adding to the longevity of your home.

Until next time.  Wishing you lots of smiles & sunshine!

Much Love~
